"Courage is fear holding on a minute longer"
-George Patton
American Soldier and General 1885-1945
"Many of life's failures are men who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up"
-Thomas Edison
American Inventor
1847-1931
"To get what we've never had, we must do what we have never done"
-Anonymous
(NOTE: sometimes, this anonymous guy pops up with some really good stuff. He is not always that cowardly
guy that hides. I think I would like to meet this fellow.)
"The drops of rain make a hole in the stone not by violence, but by oft falling"
Lucretius
Roman Philosopher
c. 50 BC
NOTE: ...this is a great one for relationships too. You won't always get what you want with your first request of your partner. You also won't get it with violence (nagging is violence). Persistent, NICE reminders allow the other party to absorb your paradigm into theirs....much like the gentle rain wearing down the stone.
"The line between failure and success is so fine that we....are often on the line and do not know it. How many a man has thrown up his hands at a time when a little more effort, little more patience, would have achieved success. A little more effort, and what seemed hopeless failure may turn to glorious success."
Elbert Hubbard
American Writer and Business Person
1856-1915
"In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins...not through strength but by perserverence"
H. Jackson Browne
Note: to which I would add: "...but by perseverence and be willing to change." You know, that stream wanted to go through that rock at first...it's why it went to it. Then, the stream said, "hey, this is a rock. It ain't moving...I got places to go. It's time for me to keep on keepin on to where I need to be."
