Why it makes me happy - it's a big deal when a young man learns an endeavor....and then goes to his first tournament....to be tested.  I remember how that felt like.  It was a sacred privilige to be there....and be present for this moment.....that can never be replicated.  The first only happens once. The nervousness...the not knowing what is going on or what is going to happen...and watching that go through his mind.   I watched him get tagged....HARD.....twice.  He dug in and fought back harder.  So proud of him for stepping in.....and pushing on and through.

Princess Kate Controversey

So...due to the controversey....I went on-line and reviewed the pics as they regard to Princess Kate and the stance we should take on this all important issue. It seems the world is locked into 2 option thinking ...which is never optimal. It is always best to have at least 3 options.

So, let's expand, shall we, beyond the first 2 options that are discussed:

1. It's an invasion of privacy 

2. She should never be taking her top off outside.

My nemisis proceded to put his 7 iron with 5 feet of the pin.....things looked bleak for our hero (that's me in this story).  I proceded to jack a 7 iron to a half inch as close as my foe. I now NEEDED that putt......and in it went.  HappyUP!!! It did not make me happy that my opponent missed his putt....but I took that 1 up lead on the back 9 and held on to it on 18........minimizing damages on a day I was getting my fanny spanked!

I hit my 6 iron on the 9th hole and, as the club contacted the ground, the club broke right in the grip below my hands.  The rubber grip, however, kept the club attached.  The dangling metal now wrapped around my neck in my follow through.  Hey....GOLF.....a dangerous game! Careful out there, kids!

As I am speaking, I look over and I see the Chief of Police ACTIVELY taking down notes from my talk.  If it wasn't the fire chief, it was a fire batallion chief doing the same.  A major HR director.  Very humbling that I was asked to present as part of leadership development................and was asked if I would come back next year!

Why it makes me happy - though it is last minute, I will get the sacred privilege to address 20 leaders in the Rocklin community regarding the leadership skill of putting on meetings...hosting speakers....and on public speaking. I am so blessed to not be worrying about how I will be received.....and to be able to focus just on the MEAT....the information that these people need.....on short notice. No stress...no mess....a bit of prep time.....it's going to be great.........and I will make the facilitator look good for picking me.  Thank you Toastmasters.........and.......I pat me on the back for the same time for paying attention to the program all of these years....and to be willing to help someone out.  My goodness....it's like I am the keynote speaker for this 9 week program

It would have been easy to "phone it in"......but I stayed on it........NOPE....it didn't happen.......but, with a little help on the greens....we are talking inches......I could have birdied in on last 5 holes. Why it makes me happy - this kind of round can be VERY frustrating....and, to be honest, it was at times. For the most part, however, I put a smile on my face and was pleasant company.  As a matter of fact, I remember actually laughing a couple of times.  Trust me....I have seen how others act when this day is going on.....I have much to proud of myself for.

Why it makes me happy - OK....I don't have them yet....but I picked them out. While far from vain, I find this a tough decision.....with the help of the optician.....we found a great pair today. Can't wait till they come in. They are a bit bigger....maybe not as stylish (who knows/who cares on that front....they will be more functional for golf).  It was a lot easier than I had thought........and....the are Ray Ban's....so they won't be that far off.

It's kind of who I am....when I love something.....no need to upgrade.

Why it makes me happy - I was in a world of hurt in my match. I was 30 feet with a weird breaking putt. My opponent had it to 10 feet and a straight putt. I was already 1 down.  I hadn't made a lot of putts all day.............and this one dribbled in........tying the match at that point....NEW LIFE!!!

I did a little test run tonight...and the old skills were a little rusty...but not gone.  The great part of this is to be able to do it anytime I want....not have to make multiple trips to drop off and pickup....and.....by doing it oneself...get paid about $100 an hour.

I came across a wonderful example today - that points out the importance of HappyUP!!!'s in our daily lives. It revolves around expectations.

Let's say that you are heading to your workplace - and are looking forward to grabbing that cup of coffee as you head off to your desk.

Expectation - "I am going to make a pot of coffee so that my co-workers benefit as well as I do"

You arrive at the breakroom - and find that, lo and behold, there is no coffee left in the existing pot. You NOW have the ability to happily live out your expectation.

If your expectation had been - "I'm grabbing a cup of coffee and heading off to my desk," what would your attitude be if you found that empty pot?

"Dammit.....why couldn't the person who took the last cup start a new pot?"

"Why am I the only one around here that seems to know how to make a darn pot of coffee?"

Under the latter expectation - you have set yourself up only for failure.  Even if there HAD been coffee in the pot, you wouldn't have appreciated that it was there.  You would just be agitated that nobody MADE YOU any coffee if the carafe was empty.

Under the former expectation - I don't think you're heart would be broken that your vision of altruism of making coffee for everyone could not be fulfilled today. You would be VERY likely to say, "cool, the coffee is already brewed.....I'll do my humanitarian service tomorrow."

That pot is going to be - in whatever state it is going to be in when you get there. The question is, "what state will you be in upon arriving upon the coffee station?"

Slice a cucumber thinly...a few thicker....leave some in rounds....halve some....quarter some......all for variety.  Slice a medium onion thinly.....separate the rings.....tear to different lengths. Slice up a tomatoe.....same deal....vary the size of pieces. A little red wine vinegar and olive oil......toss in your favorite cheese or cheeses..........lovely presentation....and soooooooo deeeeeeelicious

Now....the fruit of my labor will be enjoyed for many meals to come

Why it makes me happy - I have a special place I take Boxy to. Boxy needed an oil change but she also needed a fix from when the smog monkeys screwed something up. Turns out, it was no big deal....fixed...and with no charge...NICE!!!
